As a result of energy deregulation, natural gas, oil and electric supplies can now be purchased from Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) instead of your local utility.
Buying energy from an ESCO can result in significant savings on the cost of the energy and the cost of its delivery to your home:
- The 6.5% gross receipts tax that utilities charge for delivery goes to 0%.*
- The 4.125% sales tax that utilities charge for delivery goes to 0%.*
- You get a 5% discount (3.5 cents/gas therm) on delivery charges.*
For residential customers, you save 15.625% each month on the delivery charges alone!*
It Gets Even Better!
Columbia Utilities, an ESCO serving Westchester, the five boroughs and Long Island, is offering group discounts on the cost of the gas, oil and electricity for new customers who enroll through I.B.E.W. Local 1212.
- No yearly contract to sign, service is on a month-to-month basis.
- No enrollment or cancellation fees.
- No interruptions in service when switching to an ESCO.
- You receive one bill from your local utility for both supply and delivery charges.
- Your local utility will continue to deliver energy to your home and service your account.
You need not be a member of Local 1212 to enroll.
Anyone can enroll in the Local 1212 group discount plan with Columbia Utilities. For enrollments outside the plan, Columbia Utilities will rebate $50 to a current customer who refers a new gas/electricity customer or $100 for each new oil customer. If an enrollment is not made through I.B.E.W. Local 1212, group discounts will not apply. Within the plan, rebates will not apply; instead, Columbia Utilities will contribute the above amounts to the I.B.E.W. Local 1212 Scholarship Fund. It must be noted that since ESCOs buy their supply on the open market, supply costs may vary from month to month.
