CBS Evening News Gears Up for HD
CBS puts finishing touches on state-of-the-art control room. As it prepares to launch the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric in HD later this month, CBS News is putting the final coat of polish on a glossy new control room that will not only support the newscast's move to the 1080-line interlaced HD format but also give CBS producers and directors more space and an improved work flow for events such as Election Night.

Washington – The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers today joined in organized labor’s endorsement of Sen. Barack Obama for President of the United States.
“Our union deliberately did not endorse a candidate in the primaries because we wanted our members to listen to all the candidates and participate in the process. Now is the time to join with the labor movement to unite behind the candidate who offers the best choice to reverse the disastrous policies of the past eight years,” said IBEW International President Edwin D. Hill. “The issues are clear. We as a people face difficult choices on health care, energy policy and building jobs and opportunity in a world increasingly bound by economic and environmental issues. Barack Obama offers positive leadership to navigate our way into the future instead of continuing the failures of the past.”

Bill Moyers addresses conference for media reform: labor, health care, middle-class,
tying it all together.
Local 1212 Organizing Coordinator Jesus Sanchez was in attendance when legendary journalist Bill Moyers addressed the National Conference for Media Reform in Minneapolis, June 7, 2008. In the highlight of the conference Bill Moyers delivered a moving and powerful address that is well worth the attention of everyone concerned about the future of our country and the fate of our working people. 2008 IBEW PHOTO and VIDEO CONTEST
Photographs have the power to inspire and motivate. With improved technology and the rise of video on the Web, the ability to make moving pictures is accessible to many. We have expanded our photo contest this year to include video productions.
Also new with this year’s contest is that the IBEW membership will pick the winners on www.ibew.org. Keep an eye on future issues of the Electrical Worker and the Web site for the announcement of when the judging will begin.

Telemundo WNJU-NJ Members Turn Down Proposal and Authorize Strike
The membership of IBEW Local 1212 at Telemundo's WNJU-TV channel 47 rejected, for the second time, a Company proposed one (1) year contract extension. This second rejection grants strike authorization.
